Tom Daley Announced as New ESD Geophysics Department Head

Source:  Susan Hubbard

Tom_daleyI am pleased to announce that Tom Daley will be the new Geophysics Department Head, effective October 1, 2014. Tom is a Staff Scientist in ESD who has been with Berkeley Lab since 1987. His research focuses on the acquisition and analysis of borehole seismic data from field scale experiments. He has contributed significantly to the use of geophysical approaches to monitor processes critical to many subsurface energy strategies, with an emphasis in recent years on geological CO2 sequestration. Tom is the chairman of the Society of Exploration Geophysics CO2 research committee, is involved in several multi-institution subsurface projects, and has been a very active member of the Geophysics Department since joining the lab. I am sure that Tom will do a great job of leading the Department and contributing to the strategic evolution of the Division.

I’d like to again thank Greg Newman for his outstanding leadership of the Geophysics Department over the past five years. I am extremely grateful to him for his service to the Department and Division.
