Jens Birkholzer Named Earth Sciences Division Deputy

Jens_deputyJens Birkholzer has been named as the new Earth Sciences Division Deputy. Jens is a hydrogeologist with deep expertise in coupled fluid, gas, solute and heat transport in complex subsurface systems. He  led the Division’s Nuclear Energy and Waste Program until 2008 and has recently co-led the Division’s Energy Resources Program Area,  which includes the  Nuclear, Geothermal, Hydrocarbon, and Geological Carbon Sequestration Programs. As announced by Earth Sciences Division Director Susan Hubbard, Jens will have an expanded role in developing a variety of subsurface energy related opportunities at the Berkeley Laboratory.
