Brodie Interviewed on Microbiomes

Source:  Eoin Brodie and Dan Hawkes

This past week (April 2, 2015), ESD’s Eoin Brodie was interviewed (along with Jack Gilbert of Argonne Lab) as part of a Google Hangout—a Kavli Foundation video production entitled “Learning from Earth’s Smallest Ecosystems.”

Brodieeoin_blogBrodie discussed the complexity and diversity of microbiomes—microscopic communities of organisms (bacteria, viruses, archaea) working together within an ecosystem to maintain the function of the ecosystem. These communities are in fact the basic, essential support system for all (plant and animal) life on Earth. Brodie goes on to talk about the ongoing studies of microbiomes and their possible applications to environmental sustenance and remediation, as well as to medicine.

The Kavli Foundation, established in 2000, is dedicated to the goals of advancing science for the benefit of humanity and promoting increased public understanding and support for scientists and their work.
