California Fogs Are Thinning

Low-hanging marine clouds responsible for the familiar gray May and June skies over Southern California beaches have declined dramatically over the past 60 years, a new study concludes. It points to the growth of cities and their heat-retaining concrete as a prime cause. Commenting on this research recently reported in Geophysical Letters Research, ESD climate scientist Travis O’Brien noted that it's “the first definitive look at how fog might change for a specific coastal region.”
